The unlimited business opportunities of blue economy and ocean net-zero carbon emissions | Chairman of Yida Innovation Yu Jinlong

New generation of sustainable technologies and blue economy applications

The most special thing about Porrima is that it is the only yacht in the world that can travel around the world without using any fossil fuel. If it doesn’t run on fossil fuels, what does? In fact, its kinetic energy comes from net-zero carbon energy sources – solar, wind and hydrogen. It is a great honor that Taiwan is one of Porrima’s innovation partners, so it set the first stop of its third round of the world in Taiwan.

When it comes to Taiwan on January 3, it welcomes Taiwanese manufacturers to discuss cooperation, and is also happy to teach us how to use Air bubble technology to fish, because it does not want to use these technologies to make profits, but hopes that Taiwan can Help it be mass-produced, make the price lower, and share this technology with everyone.

Meeting Gunter Pauli

In 2015, Yu Jinlong was invited by the German government to attend the first Global Bioeconomy Summit in Berlin. Gunter Pauli was an important invited speaker. He happened to be writing a book about how to solve the problem of ocean plastic. Chairman Yu Jinlong has previously proposed that to solve the problem of marine plastics, we need to pay attention to two things: solving existing waste plastics, and reducing future waste plastics from the source. Therefore, when Yu Jinlong was in Germany, he proposed to use FPC technology to reduce ocean plastic. Another sustainable technology to solve the existing problem is to use R1 technology to use waste plastic to make clean diesel.

Chairman Yu Jinlong said: “After listening to Gunter Pauli, he was very interested in these two technologies, and he agreed with me on the spot that if it can be mass-produced and has economic benefits, he will contact the European Union or even the United Nations to cooperate with him. Let’s work together.”

Plastic recycling issues

Why is current plastic recycling a failing strategy?

When plastics are continuously recycled, the project is actually very huge, but the quality of the plastic produced will deteriorate compared with the original plastic. On average, the quality will drop by about 20% every time it is recycled. This kind of traditional recycling is called “downgrading recycling” “(down cycling).

Compared with downcycling, what we should do in the scope of sustainability is “upcycling”. Chairman Yu Jinlong said: “When I take these plastics and make them into diesel, it is of better quality than diesel made from fossil fuels. Then after it is made, the energy is used as energy, so when it is used in cars and trucks When using fuel, it will produce less pollution, and then there will be no more plastic, no need to recycle, and it will be over once and for all.”

Tourism business opportunities in the blue economy

However, if we just make clean diesel from plastic waste and then sell it as ordinary diesel to ordinary car owners, in the idea of the blue economy, Chairman Yu Jinlong thinks it is a pity to stop here. If such a Diesel would be better used to develop green tourism! For example, when taking a cruise, if you happen to stand in a certain wind direction, you will smell the unpleasant smell of diesel. But if the smell was reduced 500 times, would you be more willing to take the cruise? Its effect on environmental protection is very great, and its effect on tourism is also very great.

The most harmless wedding ring

Why do gold miners in the Philippines have an average life expectancy of less than 40 years? Because they mine, more than 90% use cyanide, mercury or aqua regia to extract hydrogen, which are highly toxic. Therefore, Chairman Yu Jinlong said bluntly: “In my wedding, I don’t want the necklaces and rings that my wife and I wear to harm the environment and workers. So what’s the point of hanging this metal?”

Endless possibilities for waste

Let’s give another example. The Tainan City Government is very concerned about the large amount of waste produced after harvesting crops. If it is thrown into incinerators, it is not only too expensive but also polluting. Therefore, the Tainan City Government approached Yida Innovation to make some finished products from waste for reuse. For example, is it better to use waste packaging for Tainan’s top ten souvenirs than using plastic and paper, and make the top ten souvenirs more popular? . This is the whole story. We must think about creating value and overall optimization.

The ocean is rarely discussed or explored, especially in Taiwan, which is a pity. When you have free time, go to the beach to listen to the sound of the sea and watch the wind. You will have different feelings. You will slowly begin to feel grateful to nature and be moved by the inspiration that nature has given you.

Conclusion

Participate in nature and let it tell you
what it needs, what the world needs, and
what you need.
